Filming

During the half term, we filmed the shots outside during the day between 10am and 3pm while it was still light. We then headed to my house to film the shots inside against the white wall.

We had to take the shots outside several times due to lighting issues as this had effect on the shots. We filmed the whole song more or less at different shots so we could use the layering effect. Also putting the make up on our artist to make her look the part and hair. Costume changes and we also used a steamer to create an effect for the inside shots. We filmed the inside shots before and our teacher said the make up was not dramatic enough so the second time round, we made sure her make up stood out.

Quotes

“Little Dragon makes pop music for folks who think they hate pop music” - NPR
“But you need to listen to it if only because rarely do young bands step forward so quickly with something this majestic and memorable and modern. Little Dragon’s evolution will be fun to listen to. Maybe even more than Prince’s next three albums.” - ESQUIRE
“Sure to be your sultry summer soundtrack.” - Complex
“If it was a love invocation, it worked. Swoon!” - Fader
“If you’re looking for a new band to love, this little Swedish electro/soul outfit could be what you’ve been waiting for.” - Huffington Post
“The sweet spot separating Motown and Paisley Park” - Esquire
“An alternatively propulsive and delicate sound dictated by strains of electro and the striking vocal coo of Yukimi Nagano.” - Spin
“You can dance to these tracks, but you can also just chill out to them-the music is a sort of indie jazz that’ll suit any type of playlist.” - Teen Vogue
“…Richly textured and highly vibe-y electronic music that could soundtrack both the dance party (“Night Light,” “Little Man”) and the chill-out room (“Crystalfilm,” “When I Go Out”). - RollingStone.com
“Pressing yet vulnerable, the title track on the new “Ritual Union” sounds like an electro-tweaked update of the sleek Holland-Dozier-Holland-produced hits of mid-’60s Motown. “  - Washington Post

Their merchandise is another way of marketing the artist

some of their merchandise that they use the t-shirts and merchandise have their name and logo's on giving the band a brand when people see their fans or buyers wearing them  they may want to find out who the band is or purchase the product .

little dragon's song featured in the vampire diaries during  a key scene in the show ;this is a good way of marketing the band  as Tvd is a popular Tv show with very high ratings people could be introduced to the band because of it and this could help them gain a new type of  audience . when people want to see the scene again they would youtube the video this would remind the viewers of the song and may be eager to purchase the song .

some opinions of viewers watching the scene

Red Hot Chili Peppers

As the Little Dragon toured with Red Hot Chili Peppers, we figured they must have similar target audiences so here is our research on the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The track, being of the rock style genre is very fast and upbeat. This makes it an attraction to the teenage audience. Their videos and the camera cuts were also fast to the beat of the song which again enhanced this lively teenage feel to the video.

In my opinion the Red Hot Chili Pepper’s target audience is people between the age of 13-21, going through many music changes, and many go through the rock phrase, but also I believe that they will have a audience of people over the age of 25, as they also would have grown up with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. The reason I feel this band appeals, is because they are very unique to other American rock bands, and have a huge following from all over the world.

Little Dragon - Road to success

The band have had considerable success in the US, being picked up by radio station KCRW in Los Angeles. Last year they performed a headlining tour of the States which included a performance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. In June, their most recent single Sunshine premiered on Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show.
The band is fresh off a tour where they supported The Red Hot Chili Peppers and played 15 festivals over the summer.
Although they haven’t gone looking for collaborations, Little Dragon have participated in a considerable number over the last few years. They’ve worked with Gorillaz and with Dave Sitek from TV on the Radio. Nagano has featured on tracks with SBTRKT, DJ Shadow and Raphael Saadiq. Recently the band recorded with Big Boi from Outkast and feature on his new album.

Their live performances take on a jazz-like approach, playing around with the structure of songs, so that no two performances are alike. “We don’t totally freak-out, but definitely as a band that uses a lot of electronic sounds, like to improvise. A lot of bands these days get lazy. The beauty of the vulnerability of being live can easily disappear, so the improv is important. Not maybe as much as going crazy on solos, but rather the philosophy of jazz music of playing together and reaching that high. There are no mistakes, so why not try something different,” Nagano says.

HOW DID LITTLE DRAGON GET THAT SOUND?

Little Dragon came in for a session during Moogfest 2011. Sadly, their bass player fell ill during the festival and they were unable to perform their full set that evening. Luckily, their soundman filled in on bass parts with the Little Phatty for the Moog Sound Lab session and we got a gem of a performance.
Little Dragon front-woman Yukimi Nagano sings through an Analog Delay Moogerfooger, adding warmth and a low-fi slap-back to her sultry voice.
Keyboardist Hakan Wirenstrand masterfully plays the Minimoog Voyager XL. Check out his solo at 4:10. Using an Analog Delay Moogerfooger, he doubles the sound of the XL to make a rhythmic doubling effect, as he opens and closes the 2 Moog Ladder filters with the cutoff knob.
Little Dragon's sound man, Crispin Anderson sat in for bassist Fredrick Kallgren for this session. He holds down the song with thick bass lines on the Little Phatty
Drummer Eric Bodin plays a driving beat with 3 Minimoog Voyager Rack Mounts using Trap-Kat drum pads to control each Voyager separately

Digipak ideas

The prop used, the make up, the shot all elements we want to include in our album artwork

The focus on her face with her being in the middle of the frame really sells the artist which will be a good technique to use for our artist as she is still an establishing artist. The text is simple but stands out. Her make up is sixty's and hippie.

Solange Knowles, ethnicity/culture is betrayed through her style - the braids and the colourful headscarf.

Location

I thought it would be ideal as it is mysterious
and could be an interesting place to film.We could experiment with the colour grading of the trees to produce a similar effect like Emeli Sande's Wonder music video . in addition the place hardly has any pedestrians passing through so the filming process will go more smoothly .
