Anna Calvi - Desire

What camera shots are used and why? Long shots? Mid shots? Close ups? ECUs? Try to identify different shot types but also explain why you think these shots are used.
The camera shots that are used are close up and extreme close ups of the artist’s lips and eyes and this is a key marketing skill that companies use to sell the artist and can be used to convey the artist’s emotion. This allows the audience to emotionally connect with the artist. The long shots are to emphasise the setting, the eerie setting which amplifies the lyrics.

Another shot, where she is framed in the middle, this suggests her passion and will to conquer her fears(her desires). At the beginning of the video, she was facing the door but she has turned around. This may suggest she has turned to face someone as throughout the video, there is a sense of voyeurism.

The shaky, hand held camera shot that seems to be a point-of-view shot looking up the stairs from around a corner, this suggests a sense of someone is watching her. The choice of colour with the carpet; red, connoting desire. But can also mean love and danger.

Finally, within this section of the music video, there are references to religion through both the lyrics and objects shown in the house. In her lyrics Calvi says ' It's the devil in me', in the house the objects seem to be more godly.
