The video is told from another perspective, a person watching the girls life. The girl is shown at the start of the video, it is a close up of her with her mouth covered crying. This shot immediately gets your attention because we are not shown what/who she is looking down at. The shot at 0.14 where we introduced to the other girl with a close up of her lying there and just starring into the camera. It's still unclear as to what is happening and the music still has not started so at this point the audience are just going off assumptions. The camera zooms out of the girls face and the beep is still going off at this point. By this point there are many close ups of the protagonist. This creates a feeling of sympathy from the audience as the music starts to play because the lyrics match what we are seeing.
The long shot of a girl lying on a bench with a sleeping bag, this suggests that she is doesn't have a place to stay which i feel a lot the young fans may be able to relate to. This draws more focus to the protagonist as the audience are left to question what has happened. The close up of her wiping her face and pulling the sleeping bag over her which suggests she is cold and lonely, creating the audience to feel more sympathy for her.
The mise en scene suggests she has been living rough for a while as they look quite tacky and old. She is wearing ripped tights and also a mans coat which is too big for her suggesting the coat is not hers. We are shown series of close ups of the girl putting make up on in a unfamiliar flat and then the long shot of her legs in order to get a car to stop suggests she is a prostitution, making the audience sympathize because she is young. The lighting is very natural all the way through the video which makes it realistic, almost forget you are watching a music video.
I would say the target audience for this video are the younger generation, between the ages 15 - 25 as the artist himself is young. The song is based on drugs so it is something the younger generation can relate to or may have witnessed or even experienced. The music video appeals to both genders because, although it is only a female in the video.
